Do not expect to keep holding on to what is your own and still get what God has promised. You have to die to all that is your own. It is difficult for someone to receive something with a clenched fist. You must first unfold your fingers to be able to grasp at what is being given to you. Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him and said to him, One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, take up the cross and follow Me. (Mar 10:21)
Jesus’ idea was not to rip off the rich man but develop total reliance and trust in Him. God requires that we put our trust in Him, not wavering but whole heartedly As long as you are not willing to surrender your best to Christ, then you cannot enjoy the rest in the kingdom. God Himself gave His best (Jesus Christ).
For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (Joh 3:16)
When you surrender, you simply are saying “take all that you want and take me where you want”. It is never easy to let go of what you have especially that which you have been having for a long time. It is the nature of man to get accustomed and put their trust in that which is seen and not that which is unseen.
The children of Israel crossed the red sea and witnessed everything that the Lord did in their lives. Not only did they witness the events at the red sea when leaving Egypt but they also saw what God did to the Egyptians as far as the 10 plagues is concerned. These events can be read in the book of Exodus of the Bible.
Life in the kingdom of God starts with surrender. There is nothing like partial salvation. When you give your life to Jesus Christ it means you surrender all to him and thus our reference to him as our Lord and saviour. “YOUR LIFE†meaning all that you got. Your heart, your finances, your health, your physical being and practically all that you have.
Do not expect God to sympathise with what you have “rightfully acquiredâ€. When you surrender He does a thorough job.
