Be of Good Cheer

The day has come to an end here on the Fourth of July which is the more commonly name for Independence day, which is a federal holiday in USA. The fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Seeing this is a day to remember freedom, I took time off to reflect on some the blessings which we take so much for granted.

The phrase “be of good cheer” appears in the Holy Bible in eight different verses. When you read through and come across repeated phrases then you know you want to pay special attention to them. So I did so.

My Heart Goes Out

Over the past couple of years I have seen people lose their homes through foreclosures, With all honesty it has been horrible. This has affected everyone in the country including both the young and old.

It does not just stop there. Some people had to go through not only losing their homes but as they continue paying their mortgages, they have been forced to make payments on homes that have values that are much less than what they owe.

Again it does not stop there. There are those that have lost there jobs as Jobless figures are know just under 10%. Sure it is a drop but as is reported it is because a lot of people have stopped seeking jobs altogether.

Okay then as if it could not get any worse, there is now a crisis in the Gulf of Mexico. With the BP oil spill spewing crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico to the tune of millions of gallons a day without an end in site. Now the livelihood of several residents in the affected states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida has probably been changed forever.

When you are caught right in the center of all of this trials and challenges, where do you find the strength to rise up in the morning? Do you need to be wound up like a clock just to get going? With people all over this country and the world in general, diverse challenges face the people and we are forced to encourage ourselves let alone one another.

I do not claim to understand what some of these affected people may be going through in the midst of all these trials. What I can say is that I have personally gone through trials in years gone by and still face challenges to this day. Growing up in Kenya and spending a good potion of my adulthood in Kenya makes for good case.
