Some of us have been privileged to have brothers we have grown up with in our lives, boy it surely can be hell sometimes. They can be rude, obnoxious, outright uncaring and bullies to the younger siblings in the household. Be they domineering or whatever, that’s just what brothers can be.

The saving grace here is that brothers especially older ones can take on the true role as Big Brother. Watching over our welfare when away from the safety and confines of our homes. No school bullies could touch us in the presence of our big brothers. That was what made life worth living with brothers.

This may not always end up rosy and picture perfect in the home and that is when the test and trials of life come knocking on your front door. When more than one person lives under the same roof there is bound to be friction sooner or later. Ranging from minor dinner table squabbles to murderous bouts each one of us may have an experience or two.

Homes may end up broken because of lack of good and caring parents. Parent that neglect their responsibility in society. A responsibility charged upon them to raise Godly children unto the service of God. Yet again a child may go way ward out of no fault of the parent but simply because the child went off on their own life adventure.

This is the story of Nico

Nico grew up like every other kid o the block. In one of the exclusive neighborhoods in the city. He was a great all round student hitting straight A’s in class, causing ripples in the annual swimming galas and doing damage in the track an field events at the city and national athletics championship. He was a good kid. Success in life seemed to be the only way to for him, or was it? Somehow life managed to toss a wrench into the works and just like Humpty Dumpty, Nico’s life seemed to start tumbling down

Nico had big plans of getting into one of the country’s best recognized school to be able to further his development in sport and academics. His dreams were shuttered when he didn’t get called to the desired school.

His performance took a drastic beating in areas and anything positive related. Nico soon took to taking excessive amounts of illicit alcoholic beverages, heavy smoking of cigarettes and smoking marijuana. This went on throughout his high school years and even into post high school education.

All Hope Gone

Nico by this time had given up on every dream that he dared to dream as a child. He was now a an unproductive member of the society leaving of mooching from his brothers, parents, relatives and friends. Everywhere Nico went there was bound to be conflict. He would steal not just to make ends meet as he was still living under his mothers roof but he would steal to finance his habits.
